ALBUQUERQUE (April 12, 2025) – Washington State dropped a 24-14 contest in game two of the series at New Mexico in a windy Saturday afternoon.

Six Cougars collected multiple hits but New Mexico used an 11-run fourth inning and five-run fifth and sixth innings to clinch the series.

Luke Thiele collected three hits and scored twice, Ryan Skjonsby tied the school record five runs scored and Will Cresswell tallied three hits with a three-run homer and drove in a career-high seven runs. Cresswell's seven RBI are the most since Jonah Advincula drove in eight against UC Riverside in 2023.

WSU recorded 16 hits while the Lobos collected 20 hits and overcame the Cougars' 5-2 lead in the fourth.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Both teams traded two-run frames in the first inning after a Johnstone RBI-double to centerfield and a Will Cresswell RBI-groundout to shortstop but UNM hit a two-run homer to left to even things at two.

WSU took a 5-2 lead with three runs in the third on four hits before UNM erupted for 11 runs on nine hits in the fourth inning for a 13-5 advantage. The Cougars loaded the bases in the fifth but were held to just one run before the Lobos adde five more in their half of the inning.

In the sixth, the Cougars scored four runs on a Luke Thiele RBI-single, a two-run double by Cresswell and Gavin Roy's RBI-single. The Lobos put the game away with five runs on five hits in their half of the inning for a 23-10 lead.

Johnstone drove in a run in the seventh and Cresswell followed with a three-run 467-foot blast to centerfield to make it a 23-14 game. UNM used a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to clinch the ten-run rule win
