Meyers, Obenour Lead WSU to Series-Clinching Win over New Mexico

WSU tallied a season-high 18 hits as nine Cougar hitters collected hits and eight drove in a run to clinched its fourth straight series win after beating the Lobos Friday night and Sunday. It's the first time the Cougars have won four straight series since 2017.

Washington State improved to 23-21 overall and 11-7 in conference play while UNM dropped to 25-17 including 10-7-1 in conference.

Obenour went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and career-high four RBI, Max Hartman had three hits and scored three times, and Matt Priest also had three hits with an RBI-double and two runs scored. Gavin Roy worked a walk and was hit by a pitch to extend his on-base streak to 31 games, the ninth-longest streak in program history. Dustin Robinson added a pair of hits, two RBI and two runs scored while Ryan Skjonsby also had two hits and Kyler Northrop singled to match Skjonbsy with 13-game hitting streaks.

Cougar starter Luke Meyers was impressive, working six innings with four strikeouts and just two earned runs to pick up the win.

WSU turned a 5-3 game in the fifth into a rout with two in the sixth, four in the seventh and two more in the eighth to clinch the run-rule victory in eight innings.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Robinson and Obenour each delivered RBI-doubles in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. Priest pulled is own RBI-double down the left field line and Robinson followed with a single to right to score Priest for a 4-0 lead.

Both teams traded runs in the fourth and UNM scored once more in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3 but Obenour rocketed a two-run double down the left field line for a 7-3 advantage.

Meyers opened the game with three scoreless frames before UNM pushed runs across in the fourth and fifth.

WSU pulled away after Obenour's two-run double in the sixth with four more in the seventh after a Skjonsby RBI-infield single, another RBI-single to left from Obenour, a run-scoring passed ball and Northrop's RBI-single into left-centerfield for an 11-3 lead. WSU clinched the game with a Cole Watterson RBI-single into right-centerfield and Dane Chavez RBI-fielder's choice groundball.

Taber Fast worked a scoreless seventh and Brock Blatter posted a scoreless eighth inning.
