FAN COMMITMENT TO GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP

WSU Athletics seeks to provide first-class conduct at each of our athletics events. It is important that coaches, players, staff, spirit groups, and fans always represent WSU in a positive manner. For fans, this means responsible and appropriate behavior that supports a safe, comfortable, responsible, and family-friendly experience for all.

Fan Code of Conduct:

The following guidelines were created to set the standard for fan sportsmanship at WSU.

  • Refrain from any behavior that diminishes the safe space of participants and/or other fans such as throwing objects, entering the competition surface, or otherwise impeding the competition.
  • Drink responsibly when choosing to consume alcoholic beverages prior to or during an athletic event. Fans who appear unruly and intoxicated will be denied entry and/or ejected from the event.
  • Refrain from discriminatory behavior and language.
  • Respect the dignity and personal space of all staff, fans, officials, student-athletes and opposing teams.
  • Expect and encourage good displays of sportsmanship from fellow fans.
  • Cheer, show your Cougar pride, and be loud in a respectful manner. Antagonizing or taunting others is not the same as cheering.
  • Respect and comply with all facility regulations (e.g., bag policies, prohibited items list) and public address announcements.
  • WSU has established a no smoking and tobacco policy on all-campus property. Smoking and the use of tobacco products, including vaping, is strictly prohibited.

Consequences of Failure to Follow Fan Conduct Guidelines:

Compliance with the above guidelines is paramount to the WSU Cougar Athletics experience for our fans and participants. As a result, failure to behave in accordance with these guidelines will have consequences.

  • Violation of Fan Conduct Guidelines: Subject to ejection, trespass from future events, arrest, and/or referral to WSU disciplinary process (e.g., Center for Community Standards).
  • Alcohol Policy Violations (including throwing objects): WSU has a two-strike policy.
  • First Violation: Any attendee who is identified as having violated an alcohol policy will be ejected from the stadium (unable to return that day) and will receive a letter from WSU stating that the behavior violated standards of conduct and venue policies and that any additional alcohol policy violations will result in a season-long trespass from the venue.
  • Second Violation: Any attendee who is identified as having violated an alcohol policy for a second time in one season will be ejected from the stadium, receive a trespass document explaining the season-long trespass, and have their season tickets and/or sports pass revoked for the remainder of the season.
