Â
WSU held a 2-1 lead after Hartman's two-run homer in the third inning but UNLV took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth before holding off a couple Cougar threats in the later innings to clinch the series.
Â
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
UNLV took a 1-0 lead after a pair of one-out hits put runners on second and third before a sacrifice fly to right field brought in a run. The Cougars answered in the third inning as Kyler Northrop muscled a two-out opposite field single into right-centerfield before Hartman hit a two-run home run to right field for a 2-1 lead.
Â
In the fourth, UNLV used three hits and a Cougar error to plate two runs and take a 3-2 lead.
Â
Rebel righthander Sam Simon kept WSU off balance throughout the afternoon before Myers pulled a one-out double off the right field wall. Following a hit-by-pitch that put runners on first and second with two outs, Simon ended the threat with a foul out to third base in front of the Cougar dugout.
Â
UNLV pushed its lead to 4-2 with a pair of singles and sacrifice in the eighth inning. In the Cougars half of the eighth inning, Hartman beat out an infield single to second and Gavin Roy pulled a single that the shortstop dove to knock down.
