Trevor Smith, Gavin Roy Earn Mountain West Weekly Accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 11, 2026) – Washington State Baseball picked up a pair of Mountain West Conference weekly accolades after infielder Gavin Roy was named the conference Player of the Week and outfielder Trevor Smith was named the conference freshman of the week, the conference office announced Monday.

This past weekend, the Cougars took two of three at Air Force to record their sixth-straight series win for the first time since 1995. WSU's 15 conference wins are the most since 2010, the 14 road wins are the third-most in a season since 2000 and the seven series wins this season are the most since 2017.

In four games last week, Roy hit .643 (9-14) with two doubles, a triple, six RBI, seven runs scored, posted a .700 on-base percentage, recorded multiple hits in all four games, scored a run in all four games and had at least one RBI in all four games. In the series win at Air Force, the senior from Sudbury, Ontario hit .700, scored six runs, did not strike out and fielded at a 1.000 clip with 15 assists in 20 chances.

Roy started his week with two hits, an RBI and run scored last Monday at Gonzaga. The senior captain tripled, had two RBI and scored three runs in the Friday win at Air Force, had three hits, a double and two runs scored in Saturday's series-clincher, and closed the weekend with two hits, a double and two RBI Sunday.

This season, Roy is hitting .364 with 13 doubles, a triple, one home runs, 34 RBI and enters Tuesday with a 38-game on-base streak, tied for the third-longest streak in WSU history.

In four games last week, Smith hit .529 (9-17) with a double, eight runs scored, four RBI, a .600 on-base percentage, recorded three multiple-hit games, scored a run in all four games and struck out just once in 21 plate appearances. The freshman centerfielder scored a team-high seven runs in the Air Force series. Smith had three hits at Gonzaga last Monday, scored twice in Friday's win at Air Force, doubled and scored three runs in Saturday's series-clincher and closed the weekend with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored Sunday.

This season, Smith is hitting .317 with 33 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, two homers and 17 RBI.

These were WSU's sixth and seventh player of the week awards of the season after earning three MWC Freshman of the Week honors earlier this season; catcher Alexandre Giguère (March 9), outfielder Matt Priest (March 23, March 30), August Richie was named the Pitcher of the Week April 13 and Nick Lewis was Pitcher of the Week last week (May 5).
