Cougars Travel to ITA Northwest Regionals

THIS WEEK: The Cougars ready for the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Regionals, Oct. 18-21 at Stanford, Calif.

ITA NORTHWEST REGIONALS DRAWS SET: The 2019 ITA Northwest Regionals will consist of one singles and one doubles flight. The singles flight features 128 players while doubles will consist of a 64-team draw. The Cougars will be represented by senior Melisa Ates, sophomores Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Hikaru Sato, along with freshmen Pang Jittakoat. All four will play singles while Ates and Sato will pair for one doubles team with Ly-Nguyen and Jittakoat forming the other. Results and updated draws can be found HERE.

ITA NORTHWEST REGIONALS FIELD: Joining WSU and host Stanford in the 2019 ITA Northwest Regionals field will include California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Oregon, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, UC Davis and Washington.

THE BEACH FALL TOURNAMENT RECAP: At last weekend's Beach Tennis Fall Tournament, sophomore Hikaru Sato and freshman Pang Jittakoat teamed to capture the A Flight Doubles title while sophomore Yang Lee finished as runner-up in the B Flight singles.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN: For the 2019-20 season the Cougars will have three new players to accompany the five returners. The returning roster consists of seniors Melisa Ates and Jovana Knezevic, junior Michaela Bayerlova and sophomore Yang Lee, Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Hikaru Sato. Newcomers include freshman Maddie Egan, Pang Jittakoat and Carla Quadflieg.

BAYERLOVA STARTS 2019 AT NO. 27 IN ITA PRESEASON RANKING: Washington State junior Michaela Bayerlova begins the 2019-20 season No. 27 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings. Bayerlova, from Krumbach, Germany, finished her 2019 season ranked No. 45 after reaching the NCAA Championships for the second-straight year.  In doubles, sophomore Hikaru Sato and freshman Pang Jittakoat enter the season ranked No. 32.

COACH HART: Lisa Hart is entering her 17th season as the head coach at Washington State. Hart has accumulated a 221-118 (.540) record her tenure, finishing the last season with a 19-11 record and a third trip to the NCAA Championships.
