Cougars Push Win Streak to Six with 4-0 Win over Seattle

PULLMAN, Wash. (April 11, 2026) – Washington State did not lose a set in posting a 4-0 victory over Seattle Saturday at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Cougars run their winning streak to six and improve to 13-6, 5-1 in West Coast Conference play, while Seattle U falls to 1-14, 0-5.
WSU started hot in the doubles matches, taking the first two matches to finish. The No. 1 pairing of Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki had little trouble in defeating Lamija Avdic and Natalia Michta, 6-1. The second match to finish was the No. 3 duo of Yura Nakagawa and Martina Puvill, who also showed fight, capturing a 6-3 victory over Larissa Teramura and Lola Tavcar, clinching the doubles point for WSU. The No. 2 pairing of Eva Alvarez Sande and Ava-Monet Sycamore were winning 5-3 against Amina Avdic and Daria Nazarenko when the Cougars clinched doubles.
In singles play, No. 2 Murphy set the tone for the Cougs, beating Seattle's Michta in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. No. 3 Puvill was the next to finish her match, winning 6-2, 6-1 against Seattle's Nazarenko, pushing the Cougs to one match from victory.
At No. 1, Alvarez Sande clinched the overall match for the Cougs, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in a competitive battle against Seattle's Lamija Avdic. The win sealed a 4-0 victory for the Cougs.
With the team victory clinched, the remaining three matches were stopped. At No. 4, Nakagawa was leading 6-3, 5-4 over Amina Advic, while No. 5 Kanemaki was up 3-1 in the first. The No. 6 had just began with Tavcar winning the first game against Sycamore.
The Cougars close out their home schedule Sunday, April 12, when they host Portland on Senior Day at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Eva Alvarez Sande and Maxine Murphy will be recognized in a pre-match ceremony beginning at 10:45 a.m.
