Cougars Sweep Pacific 4-0

STOCKTON, Calif (March 29, 2026) – Washington State Tennis ran its winning streak to four matches following a 4-0 sweep of Pacific Sunday afternoon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
With the win, the Cougars, ranked 72st nationally, improve to 11-7 overall, 3-1 in West Coast Conference play. The Tigers fall to 5-11, 1-2.
The Cougars captured two doubles matches to take the opening point. At No 1 Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki cruised to a 6-2 win over Indiya McLeod and Pauline Lerminiaux while Yura Nakagawa and Zali Morris had no trouble with Maggie Hoe and Rayna Sugai, winning 6-1 at No. 3. The match at No. 2 was stopped with Pacific's Cindy Ung and Leyanne Hirota leading Eva Alvarez Sande and Ava-Monet Sycamore 4-2.
In single play, Sycamore quickly gave WSU a 2-0 lead as she defeated Hirota 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6. Murphy, ranked No. 99 nationally, then posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Sugai at No. 2, while Nakagawa clinched the team win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Nahreen Cheam at No. 4.
Three matches were stopped as Alvarez Sande, ranked No. 84 nationally, and McLeod were locked in a close battle at No. 1, with Alvarez Sande taking the first set 6-3, McLeod the second 6-4, and the third was tied 2-2. WSU's Martina Puvill had just forced a third set as she dropped the first set 6-1 to Ung at No. 3, before capturing the second 7-5. At No. 5, Kanemaki was one game away from winning, leading 7-6 (3), 5-2 over Hoe.
The Cougars are next in action Saturday when they host Gonzaga in Pullman.
