Cougs Fall at #50 San Diego, 4-0

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 18, 2026) – The University of San Diego women's tennis team, ranked No. 50 nationally, posted a 4-0 victory over Washington State Saturday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center. The loss snaps the cougars' eight-match winning streak as they fall to 15-7 overall, 7-2 in West Coast Conference play. San Diego improves to 11-9, 5-1.
In doubles play, San Diego came out charging, quickly gaining the advantage when Vilma Krebs Hyllested and Maria Shimakova posted a 6-0 win over Evva Alvarez Sande and Ava-Monet Sycamore at No. 2. The Toreros captured the opening doubles point on Court 3 when Kristina Nordikyan and Charlotte Keitel defeated Yura Nakagawa and Zali Morris, 6-3. The match on Court 1 finished right after Court 3, with WSU's Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki defeatingAnna Linn Moll and Hannah Read, 6-1.
San Diego made it 2-0 when Read completed at 6-1, 6-0 win over Puvill at No. 3. At No. 4, Ines Leon defeated Nakagawa 6-3, 6-4, while San Diego clinched the match when Krebs Hyllested pulled out a 6-2, 7-6 (2) win over Murphy on Court 2.
The remaining three matches were abandoned once the team victory was clinched. At No. 1 Alvarez Sande was in the third set against Keitel, trailing 2-6, 6-1 0-2, while Kanemaki was up a set a 6-4, 3-3 over Shimakova at No. 5. On Court 6, Sycamore was in a second-set tiebreaker, down 2-6, 6-6, when play was stopped.
The Cougars are next in action April 23-25 when they head to Fairfield, Calif. for the West Coast Conference Championships at the Green Valley Country Club. Seedings and brackets will be released by the conference Sunday evening.
