Washington State Defeats Saint Mary’s 4-1

MORAGA, Calif. (March 28, 2026) -- Washington State captured the opening doubles point then captured three singles matches to close out a 4-1 victory over Saint Mary's Saturday at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
With the win, WSU improves to 10-6 on the season, 2-1 in West Coast Conference play. Saint Mary's falls to 5-8, 1-1.
In doubles play to open the match, the Cougars began by winning at No. 3 doubles when the Gaels forfeited the match. WSU then clinched the opening point as Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki completed a 7-5 win over Sofia Daryaie and Sophie Stanton at No. 1.
In singles action, WSU received victories from Murphy, Kanemaki and Morris to seal the win. Murphy, at No. 2, defeated Gunal 6-4, 6-1, While Kanemaki completed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sydney Wilson at No. 4. Morris won by default at No. 6.
Saint Mary's captured it's lone victory at No. 3 when Weekley posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Martina Puvill. The two remaining matched were stopped with #84 Alvarez Sande leading Daryaie 7-6 (2), 1-1 at No. 1 and Sycamore and Stanton even at a set apiece at No. 5.
WSU is next in action Sunday when it faces Pacific in Stockton, Calif. at 11 a.m.
