Five Cougars Capture West Coast Conference All-Academic Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (April 22, 2026) – Five Washington State Tennis student-athletes, led by first-team selections Eva Alvarez Sande, Chisato Kanemaki and Maxine Murphy were named to 2026 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis All-Academic team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Additionally, Yura Nakagawa and Martina Puvill were named WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Alvarez Sande, a senior from Coruna, Galicia, Spain, the 2026 WCC Co-Player of the Year and a All-WCC Singles First Team selection, received WCC All-Academic honors in 2026 after receiving honorable mention honors in 2025. Alvarez Sande, a President's Honor Roll member, possesses a 3.70 GPA while majoring in bio engineering.
Kanemaki, a sophomore from Yokosuka, Japan, earned her first WCC All-Academic honor after recording a 3.92 GPA while pursuing her degree in business, Kanemaki is a President's Honor Roll member. Earlier this week, she joined Murphy in earning All-WCC Doubles First Team honors.
Murphy, a redshirt-senior from Laguna Nigel, Calif., who Tuesday received All-WCC First Team accolades in singles and doubles, was named the WCC All-Academic Team for the second-straight year after posting a 3.71 grade point average. A President's Honor Roll member, Murphy will graduate this May with a degree in kinesiology.
Nakagawa, a redshirt-junior from Yokohama, Japan, earns her first WCC All-Academic honor as she carries a 3.52 GPA while pursuing a marketing degree. Nakagawa waw also a President's Honor Roll member.
Puvill, a sophomore from Sant Just Desvern, Spain, receives the first WCC All-Academic honor of her Cougar career as the President's Honor Roll member carries a 3.46 GPA as a data analytics major.
The Cougars will be the No. 3 seed when the WCC Championships begin this Thursday at the Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, Calif. WSU will face No. 6 Santa Clara at 6 p.m. after the Cougars defeated this same Broncos team, 4-2, last Thursday in Santa Clara, Calif.
