Cougars Take Down Oregon, 4-1

| By:
PULLMAN, Wash. – For the second-straight match, Washington State captured the opening doubles point then added three singles victories in a 4-1 win over Oregon Sunday at the Simmelink Tennis Courts.

With the win, WSU defeats Oregon for the second-straight season and improves to 15-4 overall, 1-2 in Pac-12 play. Oregon falls to 6-9, 0-4.

"I'm proud of the way we came out with great energy in doubles and it carried throughout the lineup in singles," said WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart. "Winning the opening doubles point is always key and I think that gave us confidence in singles. We need to continue focusing on the things we have control over and prepare for Boise State."

In doubles play, the Cougars' No. 2 team of Melisa Ates and Yang Lee struck first with a 6-2 win over Daniela Nasser and Paiton Wagner. That win set the stage of Michaela Bayerlova and Aneta Miksovska at No. 3 as they defeated Allison Mulville and Julia Eshet 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.

Needing three singles win after taking the doubles point, WSU did so within the first four matches. Mylonas pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2, before Oregon found its lone point on the day when Wagner defeated Savanna Ly-Nguyen, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 4.

In a three-set battle at No. 1, Bayerlova, ranked No. 38 nationally, saved a pair of match points late in the third against Sangwan before winning in a tiebreaker, 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), brining WSU within one match of victory. That win came at No. 3 where Sato rallied from a set down against Kahfiani to win, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, sealing the team win. The two remaining matches were stopped.

The Cougars are next in action Saturday when they host Boise State. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
