KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
SDSU used four hits, a walk and an error to plate five runs in the first inning. The Cougars answered in a big way, scoring eight runs on six hits in the second inning. Ollie Obenour singled home Ryan Skjonsby with a high chopper over the first baseman, Trevor Smith delivered a two-run double down the right field line and Roy singled home a run to left field that the Aztecs misplayed, allowing Smith to score and tie the game. One batter later, Priest lined an RBI-triple the other way down the right field line and Robinson followed with a two-run shot to centerfield for an 8-5 lead.
Â
Roy came through again with a two-run single to right field in the third inning before WSU added four more in the fourth. Northrop singled home a run to right field, a run scored on a wild pitch and Roy once again drove in two with a single into right-centerfield for a 14-7 lead.
Â
Meyers caught fire in the middle innings and retired 10 straight before allowing a two-out eighth inning single but ended the inning with a flyout.
