Another Lewis Gem Leads WSU Past Air Force at Mountain West Tournament

MESA, Ariz. (May 22, 2026) – Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year Nick Lewis fired 8.2 innings to lead Washington State past Air Force 5-1 in the second round of the MWC Tournament at Sloan Park Friday evening.

The win keeps WSU in the winner's bracket to face top-seed San Diego State Saturday at 1:05 p.m.

Lewis set a career-high with 11 strikeouts and allowed just one unearned run in the ninth to earn his ninth win of the season, the most by a Cougar pitcher since Matt O'Brien won 10 games in 2000. The 11 strikeouts are the most by a WSU pitcher since Grant Taylor's 17 at Washington in 2024.

Gavin Roy led the Cougar hitters with a double and two-run home run while Matt Priest, Dustin Robinson and Kyler Northrop each recorded two hits. Robinson doubled twice while Ryan Skjpnsby tripled home two runs.

WSU (28-25) collected 11 hits and built a 5-0 lead with a three-run first and Roy's two-run homer in the second inning. August Richie recorded the final out with two runners on in the ninth to notch his fifth save of the season.

The Cougars took an early lead with three runs in the first inning on Priest' RBI-single to score Roy who had doubled to left-center with one out. Following a walk to Robinson, Skjonsby pulled a two-strike pitch down the right field line for a two-run triple.
