No. 20 Oregon Rallies Late to Beat WSU

EUGENE, Ore. (May 17, 2024) – Washington State took a lead into the eighth inning but No. 20 Oregon scored seven in the eighth inning to post an 8-4 win at PK Park Friday evening.

The Cougars (21-31, 9-20 Pac-12) received a solo home run from Joey Kramer, an RBI-single from Logan Johnstone and a pinch-hit two-run single from Alan Shibley. Starting pitcher Connor Wilford was excellent, working to the eighth inning and struck out six.

Oregon (36-16, 18-11 Pac-12) rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a seven-run eighth inning to clinch the series. With the loss, WSU was eliminated from reaching the Pac-12 Conference Tournament.

Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before Wilford settled in and posted three straight scoreless frames. Kramer tied the game with a solo homer to left-centerfield in the fifth inning and Johnstone gave WSU the lead with an RBI-single back up the middle in the sixth inning.

Oregon threatened in the sixth with a pair of runners on with two outs before Wilford ended the inning with a foul out to Cresswell behind the plate, preserving the 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Oregon put two runners on to start the frame and doubled home two runs to make it a two-run game. Following a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice bunt, Oregon took a 5-4 lead with a two-run single up the middle and added a three-run home run later in the inning
