STANFORD, Calif. (April 6, 2024) – Washington State put the tying run on base in the ninth inning but Stanford held on for a 3-1 win at Sunken Diamond Saturday afternoon.

WSU (16-13, 6-8 Pac-12) scored a run in the eighth inning and brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth inning but the Stanford (13-15, 6-5 Pac-12) bullpen held off the Cougar rally with a game-ending groundout. Washington State starter Connor Wilford struck out four and allowed three runs while working into the seventh inning. Third baseman Cole Cramer had an RBI-double in the eighth inning.

Stanford starter Christian Lin struck out eight in eight innings and took had his no-hitter broken up in the eighth inning by a Will Cresswell single before Cramer doubled in a run.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Stanford built an early lead with a solo home run off the glove of a leaping Cougar centerfielder at the fence in the second inning and the Cardinal added two more in the third on a solo shot to left field and a sacrifice fly.

Cougar starter Connor Wilford settled in and kept Stanford off the board the rest of the way and struck out four while working into the seventh.

Stanford starter Christian Lin was impressive, allowing just a walk in the sixth before Will Cresswell singled up the middle with one out in the eighth inning. Cramer followed with an RBI-double to centerfield to make it a two-run game but Lin ended further damage with a pair of groundouts to end the inning.

In the ninth, Max Hartman walked and the next two hitters struck out but Casen Taggart reached on a fielding error to put two runners on. With the go-ahead run at the plate, the Cardinal reliever ended the game with a groundout to shortstop.
