PULLMAN, Wash. (September 13, 2023) – Washington State Baseball added Quinn Hawksworth as an assistant coach, Head Coach Nathan Choate announced Wednesday.
Â
Hawksworth, who will work with the Cougar hitters and assist with recruiting, comes to WSU after working the past three seasons at CSU Bakersfield competing in the Big West Conference.
Â
"Quinn is an extremely hard-working and energetic positive coach who has been around very good baseball people," Choate said. "He has very strong ties to baseball in the Northwest and specifically the state of Washington. Quinn has a passion for working with young people and developing hitters. We are excited to welcome Quinn and his family to Pullman."
Â
Hawksworth joined CSU Bakersfield Baseball prior to the 2021 season where he worked with hitters, infielders and recruiting before being promoted to recruiting coordinator following the 2022 season. He coached utility player Matthew Kurata to All-Big West Conference second-team honors in 2023 and outfielders James Bell and AJ Miller to second team accolades 2022.
Â
In 2021, Hawksworth helped the Roadrunners to 17 conference victories and multiple series wins in Cal State Bakersfield's first year competing in the Big West. CSUB baseball's relevance in the Big West was established early in the first two seasons in league play with series wins over six different conference foes; Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis, UC Riverside, Hawai'i, UC San Diego and Cal Poly.
Â
"I want to thank Coach Choate and WSU Athletics for this incredible opportunity," Hawksworth said. "Growing up in the Northwest, I always wanted to be a Coug and wear the crimson and gray. My family and I are excited to join the Pullman community and be a part of this historic program. I can't wait to get to work. Go Cougs!"
Hawksworth went to Bakersfield after spending the 2020 season in a volunteer position at Big West Conference power, UC Santa Barbara where he coached hitters and infielders for the Gauchos, helping UCSB to a 13-2 mark during the shortened 15-game season on the strength of 37 extra-base hits and ten home runs.
Â
Prior to coaching at UCSB, Hawksworth spent as an assistant at Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., working with outfielders and hitters during the 2019 season, leading the Crusaders' offense to a .393 on-base average and a .419 slugging-percentage, while mentoring a pair of 15-home run hitters. During the 2018 season, Hawksworth was an assistant at Saddleback College and helped the Gauchos finish the year 33-14 and an appearance in the CCCA Elite Eight.
Â
In 2017, he was an assistant with Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Ore. With LBCC, Hawksworth coached catchers and first baseman and aided the Roadrunners to a 30-12 record and a Southwest League Championship. Hawksworth started his collegiate career as an assistant director of operations at Oregon State University in 2016.
Â
A two-year starter at Belmont Abbey, Hawksworth was a Conference Carolina's Honor Roll selection during his NCAA playing career. He also played two seasons at Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash.
Hawksworth graduated from Belmont Abbey with a degree in Sport Management and earned his master's of education from the University of Arkansas in 2020. A native of Seattle, Wash., he and his wife, Dorothea, have a son, William, and two daughters, Emma and Lily.Â
