PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University fifth-year senior Michaela Bayerlova begins her run at the 2022 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship Monday, May 23 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Ill.
Â
Bayerlova, ranked No. 36 nationally entering the championship, will face Eden Richardson from Miami, who is ranked one spot lower at No. 37, in Monday's first round. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. PT.
Â
This marks the third appearance at the NCAA Singles Championships for the Cougars' fifth-year senior, tying a program record. Her previous appearances came in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first Cougar player to win a round at the singles championship in each year, most recently defeating Winthrop's Lauren Proctor in 2019.
Â
The 2022 season has been the best of Bayerlova's Cougar career, as she has compiled a 17-2 singles record, going 6-1 against nationally-ranked players. She was named the 2022 Pac-12 Conference Singles Player of the Year, the first in program history, while also being named the 2022 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and All-Pac-12 Conference First Team for the third time. For her career, she has 90 singles victories, tied for seventh in program history. Bayerlova graduated earlier this month with a degree in data science.
