Cougars Drop Nonconference Match at UC Santa Barbara, 4-2

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Washington State Tennis dropped a 4-2 contest against UC Santa Barbara Monday afternoon at the Recreation Center Courts.

The Cougars' (13-14) Melisa Ates and Hikaru Sato came out at No. 1 doubles and captured a 6-3 win over Lise Sentenac and Elizaveta Volodko to highlight doubles play. UCSB, however, won 6-3 and 6-2 on Courts 2 and 3, respectively, to clinch the opening point.

In singles action, WSU's Savanna Ly-Nguyen cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 while Pang Jittakoat also posted a straight-win at No. 5 to account for WSU's two victories. Ates had won the first set and was on serve in the second when her match was stopped once the team victory was secured for the Gauchos.

UCSB captured singles wins at the top three spots to improve to 10-3 on the season.

WSU is next in action Wednesday when they face San Diego. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
