Cougars Fall to Gonzaga in Shortened Contest

PULLMAN, Wash. (April 13, 2021) – Washington State dropped a 9-0 contest to Gonzaga in a game called in the top of the sixth at Bailey-Brayton Field Tuesday afternoon. The game was called after a Gonzaga player suffered a leg injury. Both team's coaching staffs met an agreed to call the game.

Washington State dropped to 16-12 overall while Gonzaga improved to 20-12. Five Cougars recorded a hit led by Jack Smith's double.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the first, Gonzaga used a two-run home run to left for an early lead. The Cougars threatened by putting multiple baserunners in the first two innings but were held off the scoreboard.

Cougar reliever Will Sierra kept the Bulldogs off balance for a couple innings before the Gonzaga bats took advantage of a couple WSU miscues and used some two-out hits to plate seven runs in the fifth.

The game was called in the top of the sixth following a play at second base that resulted in the injury.
