Cougars Open Dual Season with 7-0 Victory over Idaho

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State opened its 2018 dual match season with a 7-0 victory over visiting Idaho Saturday morning at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. The Cougars captured two doubles matches to take the opening point, then swept all six singles matches for the final score. Freshman Michaela Bayerlove improved to 6-0 this season by defeating the nation's 39th-ranked player, Marianna Petrei, 6-2, 6-2. WSU won four of the singles matches in straight sets.

- The Cougars all wore No. 3 on their outfits and had it stenciled on their rackets in honor of Cougar football player Tyler Hilinski, who passed away earlier this week.
- With the win, Washington State improves to 31-18 all-time against Idaho.
- WSU has not won 13-straight season-openers.
- Freshman Michaela Bayerlova's win over No. 39 Marianna Petrei is the highest-ranked win by a Cougar player since defeating No. 12 Klara Fabikova of California (April 8, 2016).
