Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season At UNLV

Cougars play their first tournament of the 2017 Fall season.
THIS WEEK: The Cougars open their fall season as they compete in the 2017 UNLV Fall Invitational, Sept. 22-24, in Las Vegas, Nev. Play begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The Cougars will have five players competing in the tournament: senior Barbora Michalkova, juniors Aneta Miksovska and Tiffany Mylonas, sophomores Melisa Ates and Ege Tomey.
UNLV INVITATIONAL DRAWS SET: The 2017 UNLV Invitational will consist of five flights of singles and three flights of double. Michalkova will begin the singles round with the first flight of the tournament, Mylonas in the second flight, Miksovska in the third, Ates in the fourth, and Tomey in the fifth and final singles flight. The pair of Ates and Michalkova will play in the first flight of doubles, and Miksovska and Mylonas will play in the second doubles flight.
UNLV INVITATIONAL FIELD: Joining WSU in the 2017 UNLV Fall Invitational tournament will be host UNLV, Long Beach State, Northern Arizona, Boise State and UTEP.
ROSTER BREAKDOWN: For the 2017-18 season the Cougars will have two new players to accompany the five returners. The returning roster consists of senior Barbora Michalkova, junior Aneta Miksovska, and sophomores Melisa Ates and Ege Tomey and Guzal Yusupova. The returning players will be joined by junior Tiffany Mylonas and freshman Michaela Bayerlova.
COUGARS ADD TWO TO ROSTER: Tiffany Mylonas joins the team as a junior after transferring from the University of Louisiana, Monroe, where she spent the previous two seasons. She achieved a 30-5 singles record last season and an 11 match winning streak to open dual match play. Incoming freshman Michaela Bayerlova had a promising summer as she reached a career best world ranking of 583 in singles following her win at the Alkmaar Futures event in Alkmaar, Netherlands, June 25.
LAST SEASON IN REVIEW: Guzal Yusupova finished the 2017 spring season with an 18-8 singles record and a team best 5-2 record in Pac-12 play. Aneta Miksovska finished last season with a 19-10 singles record and had back-to-back wins over nationally ranked players from ASU and Arizona. Cougar freshmen Michaela Bayerlova had a successful summer and is entering the season with a current singles world ranking of 724, and achieving a career best of 583 during the summer.
COACH HART: Lisa Hart is entering her 15th season as the head coach at Washington State. Hart was accumulated 181 wins over his tenure, finishing the last season with a 10-16 record.
