Korey Schroeder was named the Washington State women’s volleyball program's 13th head coach in program history in January of 2024 after having served as an assistant coach in 2023.
Schroeder was assigned a tall task at the beginning of his tenure as head coach, taking the helm of a program with only five players committed to return for the 2024 season, while still needing to fill out his coaching staff. Not only did Schroeder get to work and rebuild the program, but he led the new-look team to its ninth-straight postseason appearance with a berth into the 2024 NIVC.
In the 2023, Schroeder served as the Cougars' assistant coach, having a hand in one of the best years in program history. The Cougars went 26-8, reached the Round of 16 of the NCAA Championship, posted seven Top-25 wins, and reached a ranking of No. 4 before concluding the season ranked No. 11 nationally. During the 2023 season, in addition to coaching, Schroeder organized recruiting databases and created recruiting content, ran statistical analyses of WSU and future opponents to maximize match planning, and implemented the use of NeuroFuel for improved mental performance during practice and competitions.
Schreoder made the move The Palouse after being a part of three 20-win seasons over the past five years as a women's volleyball associate head coach/recruiting coordinator at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. Schroeder's time in Green Bay began with a Horizon League Championship in 2018 and the ensuing automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, the program's first tournament appearance since 2003. His five-year stint with Green Bay culminated last season with the program's highest win total (23) since 2003.
With his assistance during the 2018 season, Taylor Wolf was named Horizon League Player of the Year, Maddie Yoss was named Setter of the Year and Vanessa Buman was named Defensive Player of the Year. Alexandra Zakutney was also named to the All-Freshman Team, while Yoss and Austyn Everingham landed on the All-Academic Team.
Prior to making the move to Green Bay, Schroeder helped UW-Platteville get off to its best start in program history (7-0) before the team finished above .500 on the year for the first time since the 2012 season.
Schroeder got his coaching start as the assistant coach at WIAA power Newman Catholic High School in Wausau, Wis. In his two seasons at Newman, Schroeder helped the team capture the WIAA State Championship in both 2015 and 2016. He helped coach a pair of All-State players and assisted the team to a 74-8 record in his two seasons on the sidelines.
A native of Kaukauna, Wis., Schroeder spent three seasons leading the Wisconsin ICE Volleyball Club, including two years as head coach at the 16s level. He also served as the assistant coach for the 18’s with the Wisconsin ICE.
Schroeder was an All-State high school selection in 2009 for Kaukauna High School and played club volleyball during his time at UW-Platteville, where he was twice named to the NCVF All-Tournament Team. He also served two seasons as a student assistant at UWP.
Schroeder is the partner of Washington State Volleyball Athletic Trainer Missy Florine who joined the WSU volleyball team prior to the start of the 2022 season. Missy and Korey reside in Pullman with their dog Wallace.
