PULLMAN, Wash. (August 28, 2026) — Washington State (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12) secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Omaha (0-1, 0-0 Summit League) at Bohler Gym Friday evening, with set scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-22. The Cougars posted a .330 hitting percentage, significantly outperforming Omaha's .133.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set began with WSU taking an early lead over Omaha, capitalizing on multiple errors from Omaha's offense. Mary Healy's serve proved effective, as Wazzu secured the first five points. Naomi White contributed with a kill, extending the home team's advantage. Omaha managed to close the gap, with players recording kills, but the Cougars maintained control. Eliana Ti'a and Audrey Hollis added pivotal kills, helping WSU reach a 24-19 lead. The set concluded with an attack error by Omaha, sealing a 25-19 victory for the Cougars.
In the second set, the Cougs gained an early advantage with a series of successful plays, including a kill by Healy set up by Hollis to start the scoring. White and Ti'a continued to build momentum with consecutive points, pushing the home team ahead 6-1. Omaha responded with a kill, narrowing the gap, but WSU maintained control with contributions from Whitney Dewicki and Livia Ward. As the set progressed, a kill brought Omaha within striking distance at 16-13. However, Wazzu capitalized on a series of Omaha errors and secured the set victory at 25-20 with a final kill from Dewicki, assisted by Healy.
WSU secured a 25-22 victory in the third set to conclude the match. The home team established early momentum with a 5-0 run, highlighted by White's kill and a service ace. Omaha fought back, narrowing the gap to 8-6, but the Cougars responded with a series of plays, including a kill by Dewicki assisted by Hollis. Despite Omaha's persistent efforts, WSU maintained the lead. Ti'a's kill brought the Cougars to set point, and the set concluded with a service error by Omaha.
