PULLMAN, Wash. (August 30, 2026) — Washington State (3-0, 0-0 Pac-12) defeated Central Michigan (0-3, 0-0 MAC) in straight sets, 25-18, 25-15, 25-18, Sunday at Bohler Gym. WSU recorded 12 total team blocks, contributing significantly to its victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set started with WSU establishing an early lead, highlighted by a kill from Eliana Ti'a assisted by Audrey Hollis, putting Ti'a over 200 career points, now totaling 203. The Cougars maintained momentum with Naomi White contributing a service ace and a block that forced an attack error from Central Michigan's player, putting the home team ahead 5-1. Central Michigan responded with a service ace, but WSU continued to extend its lead with key plays, including a block by Mary Healy and Kryssa Moerman. Despite a late series of errors, Wazzu secured the set with a decisive kill by Ti'a, concluding the set 25-18.
WSU capitalized on a series of errors by Central Michigan to secure a 25-15 victory in the second set. Healy led the way early with three crucial kills, helping the Cougars maintain a slight edge. A pivotal moment came when Ti'a's service ace ignited a seven-point run, stretching WSU's lead from 14-11 to 21-11. White and Whitney Dewicki contributed defensively with multiple blocks, frustrating Central Michigan's offense. The set concluded with Madyn Cervellera's decisive kill, ending the set.
The Cougars secured a victory in the third set, overcoming Central Michigan 25-18. White initiated the momentum with a kill, assisted by Hollis, earning the first point. Dewicki contributed significantly, notching multiple kills, while Healy's service aces at the 9-9 and 9-10 marks helped WSU regain and extend its lead. A series of errors by Central Michigan players further widened the gap. Healy capped off the set with a kill, sealing the win for WSU.
