SEATTLE, Wash. (September 11, 2026) — Washington State women's volleyball lost to Lipscomb 3-2 Friday, winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25-22 before dropping the final three sets 25-18, 25-18, 15-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb scored the first three points of the opening set, but Washington State worked back behind a Kryssa Moerman kill, a Whitney Dewicki-Naomi White block, and consecutive Dewicki service aces to move in front 5-4. Lipscomb later led 14-11 before the Cougars pulled even at 14-14, and after another Lipscomb point, Washington State went ahead 16-15 on a White kill. The set stayed tight from there, with Washington State getting kills from White and Audrey Hollis before Lipscomb moved back in front 20-19. Mary Healy’s kill tied it at 20-20, and the Cougars scored the final five points with two Dewicki kills, a Moerman-Dewicki block, and Moerman’s closing kill to take the set 25-20.
After the second set was tied 4-4, Washington State took control of the early stretch with four straight points, getting blocks involving Healy, White, and Hollis before Madyn Cervellera’s kill made it 8-4. Lipscomb briefly stopped the run, but Healy added two kills around a White ace as the Cougars moved ahead 11-5. Lipscomb worked back to 15-12, but Washington State kept answering with kills from White, Healy, Hollis, and Cervellera to stay in front at 23-18. Lipscomb scored three straight to close to 23-21, but a pair of late service errors by the teams left Washington State with the final point and a 25-22 set win. Healy achieved a season-high 12 kills in the match.
The third set was even at 4-4 after Hollis put down a kill from Livia Ward, but Lipscomb scored the next five points to move ahead 9-4. Washington State traded points through the middle of the set, getting kills from Moerman, Healy, and Cervellera and blocks involving White and Hollis, but Lipscomb kept its cushion and pushed the score to 18-11. After Lipscomb reached 21-14, the Cougars took three straight points on two Moerman kills and a Dewicki kill to close to 21-17. Lipscomb answered with a kill, and after a service error made it 22-18, Lipscomb took the final three points to close the set 25-18.
Lipscomb built an 8-3 lead in the fourth set behind kills and points before Washington State worked back into the set. After Lipscomb moved ahead 12-7, Dewicki put down kills on consecutive Cougars points, Moerman added a kill, and Dewicki teamed with Moerman on a block to cut the margin to 12-11. Lipscomb kept Washington State from tying it, trading sideouts until Cervellera’s kill made it 15-14, then scoring three straight points before an ace made it 18-14. Washington State got late kills from White, Healy, and Dewicki, but Lipscomb extended the lead again and closed the set 25-18. White recorded a season-high of 13.5 points in the game.
Cervellera, Moerman, and White each had early kills as the Cougars traded points with Lipscomb to reach 3-3 in the fifth set. Lipscomb moved in front with five straight points and later added two service aces to stretch the margin to 11-4. Washington State answered with a service error by Lipscomb, a Hollis kill, and a Chloe Heimlicher ace to get to 11-7, then stayed within range on kills by Hollis, Healy, and Cervellera. An ace brought the Cougars to 14-11, but Lipscomb ended the set with a kill for a 15-11 win.
