Eva Alvarez Sande Named WCC Singles Player of the Week

SAN MATEO, Calif. (April 14, 2026) – Washington State senior Eva Alvarez Sande has been named the West Coast Conference's Women's Singles Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. It marks the second-consecutive week a Cougar player has received the honor, with Yura Nakagawa receiving the award last week.
Alvarez Sande entered the weekend ranked No. 84 in the most recent ITA rankings and proceeded to win both of her singles matches in straight sets. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Alvarez Sande defeated Seattle's Lamija Avdic 6-4, 6-2, clinching WSU's 4-0 victory over the Redhawks. The next day, she cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Portland's Alaia Rubio Perez, her final match in Pullman, as part of the Cougars' 4-0 win over the Pilots.
The victory over Portland was WSU's seventh-straight victory and with her the two victories, Alvares Sande ran her winning streak to five while improving to 14-1 in dual matches this season.
This marks the first WCC Singles Player of the Week honor for Alvarez Sande, who has been part of four WCC Doubles Teams of the Week since the start of last season.
