Cougs Post Fourth-Place Finish at El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. (April 12, 2026) – Playing in wind and rain for the second-straight day, Washington State Golf pushed past the elements to fire a 3-over, 291, the second-best round of the day, to finish tied for fourth Sunday at the 2026 El Macero Classic, played at the 7,138-yard, par 72, El Macero Country Club.
Led by senior Sam Renner and freshman Dylan Boenning, the Cougars jumped two spots in the standings to finish with their best round of the tournament. WSU's 54-hole score of 15-over, 879, tied them with Saint Mary's for fourth. Pacific led wire-to-wire to capture the tournament by 12 strokes over Cal Baptist, while Nevada was third, 14 strokes off the lead at 12-over, 876.
Boenning was strong throughout the round after starting with a bogey on the par 4, first hole. He followed with two birdies on the front to make the turn at 1-under. Two more birdies and a bogey on 17 saw him end his day at 2-under, 70, his best round of the tournament. Boenning's three-round score of 1-over, 217, tied for fifth overall.
Renner, who had not broken par in either of his first two rounds, found his rhythm on Sunday. After making the turn at 2-under, he posted two birdies and two bogeys on the back to finish at 2-under, 70. Renner's 54-hole score of 3-over, 219, tied him for 12th overall, his third Top 15 finish in a row.
Redshirt-junior Ben Borgida fired a 4-over, 76, on Sunday, making one birdie and 13 pars as he completed his 54-hole event at 6-over, 222, tied for 25th. Sophomore Dylan Burcham carded two birdies over his final 18 holes as he posted a 3-over, 75, Sunday. His three-round total of 10-over, 226, tied him for 51st overall.
Sophomore Garrett Harrison posted a 7-over, 79, Sunday and finished his 54-hole event at 11-over, 227, tied for 55th overall.
The Cougars will now prepare for the West Coast Conference Championships, May 1-3 in Fairfield, Calif.
