STANFORD, Calif. (March 26, 2026) – Sophomore Dylan Burcham fired an opening-round 5-under, 65, to lead Washington State during the first round of play at The Goodwin, played on the par-70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course Thursday.
As a team, the Cougars finished the first day at 1-over, 281, 12th in the 30-team event. In one of the strongest fields on WSU's schedule this season, with 14 teams ranked in the top 50 nationally, host Stanford leads the way at 11-under, one shot ahead of Long Beach State, two ahead of New Mexico, and six strokes ahead of BYU, SMU and California
Burcham got off to a slow start, recording a double bogey on the par-4, second. From there he was lights out, posting three consecutive birdies on holes five through seven and made the turn at 1-under, 34. A birdie on 12 and bogey on 14 preceded four-straight birdies to end his round at 5-under, 65, tied for second overall and one shot off the lead. The 65 was the lowest score of his Cougar career while the 5-under matched his low round in relation to par as a Cougar.
Senior Sam Renner started strong with back-to-back birdies on his opening two holes before making the turn at 2-under. Renner was up and down on his back nine, recording three birdies and three bogeys to finish the day at 2-under, 68, tied for 18th overall. Renner's bogey at No. 10 snapped a streak of 46 consecutive holes of par or better.
Sophomore Garrett Harrison finished his first round shooting a 4-over, 74. Harrison had four straight bogeys on the front nine before a birdie at No. 9 put him at 3-over at the turn. Two more birdies on the back side helped him complete the round at 4-over and tied for 102nd overall.
Freshman Dylan Boenning opened his round with a par on the first before rattling off eight-straight pars to make the turn at 1-under. The back nine was a struggle as he had five bogeys to complete his first 18 holes at 4-under, 74, tied for 102nd with teammate Harrison.
Redshirt-junior Ben Borgida finished his first round at 6-over, 76, managing two birdies on the back nine after making the turn at 3-over. Borgida sits tied for 133rd overall.
The second round of The Goodwin is set Tuesday, with Washington State teeing off at 1:05 p.m. on Hole 10.
