Renner leads Cougar Charge up Leaderboard at The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif. (March 27, 2026) – Senior Sam Renner shot a 4-under, 66, one of two Cougars under par on the round, to lead Washington State during the second round of play at The Goodwin, played on the par-70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course Friday.
As a team, the Cougars finished the round at 3-under, 277, the fifth-best round of the 30-team field, to finish the first 36 holes at 2-under, 558 alone in sixth place. The Cougars moved six spots up the leaderboard following the second round. UCLA shot the round of the day at 8-under, 272, moving six spots up the leaderboard to share the second-round lead with BYU at 12-under. BYU was close behind with a second-round score of 7-under as it and UCLA hold a one-stroke lead over Long Beach State and host Stanford. New Mexico is two shots behind at 10-under to round out the top five.
Renner was strong all afternoon as he opened with a birdie on No. 10 with WSU starting on the back nine. Two more birdies and a bogey over his next three holes had him 2-under after four holes. Bogeys on holes 6 and 8 saw him make the turn at even par. He started his second nine in grand fashion, making eagle on the par 5 first hole. Six more pars wrapped around a pair of birdies had him end his round at 4-under, 66. His 36-hole score of 6-under, 134, has him tied for fourth overall.
Sophomore Garrett Harrison was the other Cougar under par on Friday, posting a 1-under, 69. He was 2-over on his front nine but carded three birdies and six pars the rest of the way to finish his round under par. Harrison shot up 42 spots on the leaderboard and sits tied for 60th at 3-over, 143.
Sophomore Dylan Burcham, who began the day one stroke out of the tied and tied for second, made the turn at 1-under before running into trouble on his back nine. A triple bogey on the par 3 third followed by a bogey on the fifth put him a 4-over with four holes to play. Burcham managed a birdie on the seventh to finish his day at 2-over, 72, and 3-under for the tournament, tied for 13th overall.
Freshman Dylan Boenning had it going early as he began his round with three straight birdies. Another birdie and a bogey had him 3-under at the turn. On his back nine, a triple, two bogeys and a birdie saw him end his round at 1-over, 71, giving him a 36-hole score of 5-over, 145, tied for 83rd overall.
Redshirt-junior Ben Borgida started his round with a triple bogey but four birdies and a bogey over his next six holes had him even par at the turn. On his back nine he posted two birdies and three bogeys to finish his round at 1-over, 71, giving him a two-round score of 7-over, 147, tied for 107th overall.
The third and final round of The Goodwin is set for Saturday, with Washington State teeing off at 7 a.m. on Hole 1.
