Cougar Tennis Receives ITA Academic Honors

PULLMAN, Wash. (July 21, 2025) - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Academic Award for its academic achievement during the 2024-25 season. Additionally, student-athletes Hania Abouelsaad, Eva Alvarez Sande, Chisato Kanemaki, Martina Markov, Maxine Murphy, Yura Nakagawa and Elyse Tse were also recognized for their academic accomplishments with the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award.

During the 2024-25 season, the Cougars earned a 3.70 team grade point average. The Cougar tennis team earned the ITA Academic Award for the 19th consecutive season. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a team grade point average of 3.20 or above. Individual ITA Scholar-Athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA.

Abouelsaad, from Alexandria, Egypt, graduated from WSU with a marketing degree and carried a 3.83 GPA while working towards her MBA. Alvarez Sande, a rising senior from Coruna, Galicia, Spain, had a 3.72 GPA in 224-25 while majoring in bioengineering. Kanemaki, a rising sophomore from Yokosuka, Japan, completed her first year in Pullman with a 3.94 GPA as a kinesiology major. Markov, from Ingelheim, Germany, completed her sophomore season with a 3.83 GPA while majoring in digital technology and culture.

Murphy, a rising senior from Laguna Nigel, Calif., posted a 3.63 GPA as a kinesiology major while Nakagawa is a rising-junior from Yokohama, Japan and held a 3.58 GPA last year majoring in marketing. Tse graduated last May with a degree in digital technology and culture and held a 4.00 GPA last year.
