FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (February 15, 2025) – Washington State had a pair of late-inning rallies turned away by No. 4 Arkansas in a 5-2 defeat at Baum-Walker Stadium Saturday.

The Cougars received a pair of doubles from Ryan Skjonsby, an RBI-triple from Ricco Longo and five strong innings from starter Luke Meyers. The Razorbacks broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the sixth inning and added a two-run shot in the eighth inning.

WSU left runners stranded on third to end the seventh and eighth innings.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Arkansas took 1-0 lead after a leadoff double and two-out double in the second inning but the Cougars answered in the fourth. Logan Johnstone walked and Longo rocketed a triple to left-centerfield to score Johnstone. Ryan Skjonsby followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that Arkansas made a diving catch on, allowing Longo to score the go-ahead run.

The Razorbacks answered with a long home run to lead off their half of the fourth to tie the game at two. Meyers settled in and closed out a scoreless fifth with a strikeout.

Arkansas took a 3-2 lead with a solo homer to left field in the sixth inning.

Skjonsby led off the Cougar seventh with his second double of the season, this one to right centerfield but was stranded at third after a groundout, flyout and groundout to third base. WSU threatened again in the eighth as Watterson beat out an infield single and later stole second but the Arkansas bullpen kept it 3-2 with a pair of flyouts and a strikeout.

The Razorbacks added a two-run home run in the eighth inning to push the lead to 5-2.
