Late Inning Rallies Held Off at No. 4 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (February 15, 2025) – Washington State had a pair of late-inning rallies turned away by No. 4 Arkansas in a 5-2 defeat at Baum-Walker Stadium Saturday.

The Cougars received a pair of doubles from Ryan Skjonsby, an RBI-triple from Ricco Longo and five strong innings from starter Luke Meyers. The Razorbacks broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the sixth inning and added a two-run shot in the eighth inning.

WSU left runners stranded on third to end the seventh and eighth innings.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Arkansas took 1-0 lead after a leadoff double and two-out double in the second inning but the Cougars answered in the fourth. Logan Johnstone walked and Longo rocketed a triple to left-centerfield to score Johnstone. Ryan Skjonsby followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that Arkansas made a diving catch on, allowing Longo to score the go-ahead run.

The Razorbacks answered with a long home run to lead off their half of the fourth to tie the game at two. Meyers settled in and closed out a scoreless fifth with a strikeout.
