Cougars Pick Up Five Victories on Day 2 of Husky Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. (Oct. 5, 2024) – Washington State Women's Tennis split its four singles matches with the University of Washington while also sweeping Seattle U in doubles action to highlight the second day of play at the Husky Invitational Saturday, played at the Seattle Tennis Club.
Senior Elyse Tse posted a strong win as she defeated Washington's Sophie Luscher, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, while sophomore Martina Markov only needed two sets as she posted a 6-4, 7-5 win over UW's Zehra Suko. The Huskies captured straight-set wins as Catherine Gagnon defeated Hania Abouelsaad while Catherine Gagnon defeated Martina Puvill.
In the two remaining singles matches, Seattle U's Lemija Advic defeated WSU's Chisato Kanemaki, 6-2, 7-6, while Advic's teammate Daria Nazarenko defeated Cougar Madhu Satishbabu, 6-4, 6-4.
WSU had little trouble in sweeping all three doubles matches against Seattle. Tse and Kanemaki started it off with a 6-0 victory over Advic and Nazarenko while Abouelsaad and Markov completed a 6-3 win over Natalia Michta and Jade Quintana. Puvill and Satishbabu cruised to a 6-2 win over Liliya Dimova and Lola Tavcar.
Play concludes Sunday at the Husky Invitational with the Cougars facing Seattle and Iowa in singles, and Denver in doubles. Match time is set for 9 a.m. from the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
