Cougars Set to Face Arizona Schools

THIS WEEK: The No. 35 Washington State Cougars (16-4, 1-2) return to Pac-12 action this weekend as they Arizona State, Friday at 1:30 p.m., followed by a Sunday morning match against Arizona at 10 a.m. at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. The matches are scheduled for indoors but weather could allow for both matches to be moved outdoors.

ABOUT ARIZONA STATE: Arizona State enters the match with an 8-8 overall record, 2-4 in Pac-12 play, having won its last three matches, including a sweep of the mountain schools two weeks ago. The Sun Devils lead the all-time series, 24-1.

ABOUT ARIZONA: Arizona begins the week with a 9-8 record, 1-5 in conference action, defeating No. 38 Utah 4-1 in its last outing. The Wildcats lead the all-time series against the Cougars, 20-5.

LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars rolled past Boise State 4-0 at home, pushing the winning streak against the Broncos to six matches.
 
UP NEXT: The Cougars travel to the bay area to face No. 7 Stanford and No. 15 California, April 5 and 6, respectively.

ROAD WARRIORS: Washington State is 17 matches into the season and Wednesday's match at Fresno State marks the 13th match the Cougars have played on the road. With trips to Missoula, Mont., Stanford, Calif., Waco, Texas, West Lafayette, Ind. Spokane, Manhattan, Kan., Lincoln, Neb., Salt Lake City, Boulder, Colo. and Fresno, Calif., WSU will return from Fresno having travelled more than 10,432 miles.
 
ITA RANKINGS: Washington State University women's tennis team is ranked No. 35 in the most recent ITA ranking. That is down two spots from last week, when the Cougars came in at No. 33. Earlier this year, WSU has held rankings of 36 (March 12), 28 (March 5), 31 (Feb. 26) and 15 (Feb. 19). The No. 15 ranking was the highest in program history. Additionally, Sophomore Michaela Bayerlova moved to No. 38 in the singles rankings, down from No. 35 two weeks prior. Entering the doubles rankings last week were WSU's No. 1 duo of Tiffany Mylonas and Hikaru Sato, at No. 71.
 
MIKSOVSKA CLIMBING CAREER WINS LIST: Cougar senior Aneta Miksovska enters the week with 93 career victories, in fourth place on the all-time wins list, one ahead of Ksenia Googe. Next up on the list is Elizaveta Luzina with 105 victories.

  • WSU freshman are a combined 50-18 (.735) in singles play this season
  • WSU doubles record for this season is 14-6
  • Michaela Bayerlova is WSU's highest-ranking player at No. 51 in the most recent ITA Rankings. The Cougars sophomore is 4-2 against nationally-ranked players
  • WSU tennis has had three players ranked this season, Bayerlova, Tiffany Mylonas and Melisa Ates
  • Mylonas has the longest current winning streak on the team at four matches
 
COACH HART: Lisa Hart is in her 16th season as the head coach at Washington State. Hart has accumulated a WSU career record of 218-181 (.546) over her tenure, finishing the 2018 season with a 21-7 record.
