Cougars Complete Sweep of Seattle

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State Tennis won its fourth-straight match following a 7-0 victory against Seattle Friday at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Cougars, ranked No. 15 nationally, improve to 10-1 on the season. Seattle falls to 4-5.
After taking the doubles point, the Cougars captured all six singles matches to ensure the win. Melisa Ates was first off following a 6-0, 6-0 win against Martina Asciuto at No. 4, giving WSU a 2-0 lead. Tiffany Mylonas collected her team-leading 18th win over the season with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Kyra Jung at No. 2.
For the second straight match, freshman Savanna Ly-Nguyen provided the clinching win, this time a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jillian Rasmussen at No. 3. Freshman Hikaru Sato increased the lead to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hannah Gianan at No. 1.
The match concluded with WSU's Yang Lee finishing a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over Kali McCollister at No. 5 just after Aneta Miksovska completed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Lily-Ana Kreutzer.
In doubles action to start the match, the Cougars captured wins at No. 2 and 3 to clinch the opening point. Ates and Lee started things off with a 6-0 win over Kreutzer and Rasmussen followed by Miksovska and Jovana Knezevic with a 6-1 win over McCollister and Asciuto at No. 3. With the doubles point clinched, the No. 1 match between Mylonas and Sato and Giana and Jung was stopped with Seattle leading 4-3.
The Cougars are next in action Thursday when they visit Kansas State.
