Ly-Nguyen Leads Cougars on Final Day of Rainbow Wahine

HONOLULU – Freshman Savanna Ly-Nguyen captured a three-set victory to lead Washington State tennis during the third and final day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii, Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex.
For the third-straight day, the Cougars had the better results against Hawaii in the non-team scoring match. WSU won four of six singles matches and all three doubles contests. For the weekend, WSU went 18-4 in singles and 6-6 in doubles play.
Ly-Nguyen split the first two sets against Nikola Dolakova before capturing a tiebreaker for the third set, 10-6. Ly-Nguyen won all three singles matches over the weekend.
Senior Aneta Miksovska was a double winner Saturday as she defeated Alzbeta Houbova 6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-8, then teamed with Michaela Bayerlova to defeat Petra Melounova and Sophia Storch, 6-4. Bayerlova, ranked No. 83 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, fell to Michelle Pits, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3) in singles.
Junior Melisa Ates also won a pair of matches, defeating Sophia Storch 6-0, 7-5 after pairing with Yang Lee for a 6-3 win over Dolakova and Maayan Sela. Lee fell to Sela in their one-set singles match, 6-2. Sela also faced WSU's Hikaru Sato in singles, with the Cougar freshman coming away with a 6-3 win in the one-set match. Sato and Tiffany Mylonas teamed to defeat Pits and Houbova, 6-4, in their doubles match.
The Cougars begin their dual match play Saturday when they host Idaho at noon and Eastern Washington at 5 p.m. at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
