Miksovska, Mylonas and Ates Reach Cougar Classic Finals

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State tennis placed three singles players and two doubles teams in flight championship matches to highlight the second day of play at the 2018 Cougar Classic at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

In the Crimson Singles Flight, senior Tiffany Mylonas had little trouble in advancing to the finals, defeating freshman teammate Yang Lee, 6-1, 6-1. She will face Boise State's Wilhemina Palmer, who defeated WSU freshman Hikaru Sato, 6-3, 6-4.

In the Gray Singles Flight, senior Aneta Miksovska will face junior teammate Melisa Ates after both advanced with straight-set semifinal victories. Miksovska rallied from 5-3 down in the first set against Idaho's Marta Magalhaes to win 7-5, 6-1. Ates defeated junior teammate Ege Tomey 6-4, 6-4 in their semifinal match.

In doubles play, WSU advanced both teams to Sunday's final as Ates and Yang posted a 6-2 win over Montana State's Mary and Vink. In the bottom half of the draw, Mylonas and Sato defeated Boise State's Palmer and Poling, 6-2, to reach Sunday's final.

Play concludes at the 2018 Cougar Classic Sunday, with the doubles championships beginning at 10 a.m. and singles finals to be played at 11 a.m.

In Malibu, Calif., Cougar sophomore Michaela Bayerlova and Baylor's Sven Lah saw their run for the mixed doubles title fall one match short at the Oracle/ITA Masters at the Malibu Racquet Club. In the championship match, the duo fell to the tournament's top seed, Texas' Yuya Ito and Oklahoma State's Lisa Marie Rioux, 8-3.

The Cougars are next in action Oct. 5 at the Long Beach Invitational.
