The Washington State University track and field team concluded the 2018 outdoor season with three All-America performances at the NCAA Championships...
Alissa Brooks-Johnson finished sixth in the heptathlon for first team honors while
Brock Eager (14th in hammer) and
Kaili Keefe (16th in women's 1500m) earned second team honors...
Sander Moldau (17th men's pole vault),
Stephanie Cho (20th women's 400m hurdles) and
Chandler Teigen (24th men's 1500m) were awarded honorable metion accolades...during the 2018 outdoor season, WSU women surpassed or equaled 60 lifetime-best marks while Cougar men surpassed or equaled 48 lifetime-best marks...a total of 16 outdoor marks were added in 2018 to the WSU All-time Top 10 or Freshman School Records: 13 for women and three for men.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (University of British Columbia '91) completed his fourth season with the Washington State track and field program...Phipps led the Cougar men's cross country program back-to-back-to-back NCAA Championships at-large berth appearances...WSU finished 21st in 2017, 14th in 2016 - the highest in 32 years, and 26th in 2015....in the past four years of track and field seasons, mentored student-athletes to WSU top-ten performances 32 times in the indoor season and 63 times in the outdoor season....during Phipps' direction, there have been conference all-academic honors awarded to WSU student-athletes 50 times in cross country, 126 times in indoor track and 121 times in outdoor track...Phipps became the 15th men's coach and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014, after 19 years at the University of Idaho...while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 conference titles.

COUGARS TRIO AT USATF OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The trio of WSU track and field competitors -
Alissa Brooks-Johnson,
Brock Eager, and alumnus CJ (Craig) Allen - fared well at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships, held June 21-24, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa...Brooks-Johnson (Doty, Wash.) finished seventh in the women's heptathlon with a score of 5,850 points, just three points behind sixth-place...her marks were: 100m hurdles - 13.91; high jump - 1.69m/5-6 1/2; shot put - 12.55m/41-2 1/4; 200m - 24.79 (first day total = 3,437 points); long jump - 5.73m/18-9 3/4; javelin 42.58m/139-8; 800m - 2:12.51, just 46/100m seconds off her PR time...Brooks-Johnson completed her collegiate career with three Pac-12 heptathlon titles, two first team All-America heptathlon honors and one second team All-America pentathlon award...lifetime-best of score of 5,977 points - second-best in WSU all-time... Eager, a rising senior (Renton, Wash.) placed 13th in the men's hammer with throw of 68.11m/223-5...
CJ Allen, a student-coach at WSU after completing his collegiate eligibility in 2016, placed sixth in the men's 400m hurdles with a PR time of 48.58.

LITTLE AND TEIGEN NAMED GOOGLE CLOUD ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Kyler Little and
Chandler Teigen were named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District 8® Men's Track/Cross Country First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom...Little, named to the national second team, is a junior from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, majoring in Mathematics with a 4.00 GPA...placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2018 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships...Teigen, named to the national third team, is a junior from Anatone, Wash., majoring in Biological Systems Engineering with a 3.96 GPA....during the 2017 cross country season, he earned All-Pac-12 Second Team and All-West Region honors, and led the No. 27 WSU men's team to a 24th-place finish at the NCAA Championships...Teigen was 11th in the 1500m at the 2018 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships, eighth in the NCAA West Region quarterfinals and 24th in the NCAA Championships...Little and Teigen are the fourth and fifth WSU male track and field student-athletes to be named and the 32nd and 33rd time a WSU male student-athlete has been selected to a national academic team.

The Pac-12 Conference Tom Hansen Conference Medal 2018 WSU recipients are
Alissa Brooks-Johnson (Track & Field) and Luke Falk (Football)...conference medal winners are those who best reflect the greatest combination of performance and achievement in athletics, scholarship and leadership, as selected by the athletic director and senior administrative staff...Brooks-Johnson is a three-time Pac-12 heptathlon champion, a three-time NCAA All-American in the heptathlon/pentathlon events, and has achieved All-America honorable mention honors in the 400m hurdles, the 4x100m relay and the heptathlon....has marks that are ranked in WSU's all-time top 10 lists in four events: 5,977 points is second-best in the heptathlon, 4,190 points is third-best in the pentathlon, 400m hurdles time of 57.86 seconds is fourth-best, and 100m hurdles time of 13.65 seconds is sixth-best...Women's Team Field Events captain...earned Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors in April for winning four of the six events she competed in (100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, high jump, and 400m relay), scoring 23 of WSU's 88 team points to defeat the Washington Huskies in a dual meet for the first time since 2014...placed sixth in the heptathlon at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships....earning degrees in both Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles, and in Sport Management....two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention and USTFCCCA All-Academic team selection.

The Cougar Athletics Leadership Award recognizes the senior student-athletes who have impacted a positive change within his/her sport, the athletics department, Washington State campus, at the conference and/or national level, as well as the greater Pullman community. The recipient of the Cougar Athletics Leadership Award has been a consistent voice while representing the student-athlete experience at WSU. The recipients have also demonstrated personal growth and development through active participation in student-athlete development programming such as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, leadership and peer academic counseling and mentoring programs, and community engagement activities. -
