Cougars Fall at No. 49 Washington, 5-2

SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Washington, ranked 49th, captured five of six singles matches en route to a 5-2 upset victory of No. 40 Washington State Saturday afternoon in a match that started outside then moved indoors due to rain. With the loss, the cougars fall to 20-6 on the season, 5-5 in Pac-12 play. For the 22nd time in 26 matches this season, the Cougars began the day by capturing the opening doubles point as Guzal Yusupova and Tiffany Mylonas at No. 2 and Michaela Bayerlova and Aneta Miksovska at No. 3 each posted wins. In singles play, the Cougars extended its lead to 2-0 as Melisa Ates recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6, but WSU drew no closer. The Huskies captured the top five singles matches, two in three sets, to come away with the win. WSU finished in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Pac-12. The Conference tournament begins Wednesday in Ojai, California. Pairing for the tournament will be announced Sunday by the pac-12.
