Cougar Post another Strong Day at Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – Washington State tennis had a strong second day at the Wildcat Fall Invitational, advancing five players to championship matches Saturday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

In Flight One singles, all three Cougars came away with victories. Freshman Michaela Bayerlova posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over New Mexico's Danielle Quevedo while sophomore Guzal Yusupova needed a second-set tiebreaker to defeat New Mexico's Diana Wong, 6-0, 7-6 (1). Junior Tiffany Mylonas also recorded a straight-set win, defeating Marquette's Andrea Amortegui, 6-2, 6-3.

In Flight Two singles, both Cougars were victories in their semifinal matches. Senior Barbora Michalkova was dominate against Arizona Christian's Tia Okano, winning 6-2, 6-4, while junior Aneta Miksovska needed three sets to defeat to New Mexico's Bronte Murgett, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

Also in Flight Two, sophomore Melisa Ates fell in her match as Arizona's Sophia Thomas came away with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

In Flight Three singles, sophomore Ege Tomey dropped two close sets, falling to New Mexico's Polly Chen, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles action, the Cougar duo of Bayerlova and Yusupova cruised both matches, defeating New Mexico's team of Natasha Munday and Albie Huang, 6-2, followed by a 6-2 victory over Marquette's Andrea Amortegui and Lesley Foe. Also in the top flight doubles, WSU's Michalkova and Ates split their two matches, falling to New Mexico's Diana Wong and Danielle Quevedo, 6-4, before rebounding with 6-0 victory over Huang and Munday.

In Flight Two doubles, WSU's Miksovska and Mylonas posted easy victories over New Mexico's Chen and Jaci Fulgenzi (6-1) and Arizona Christian's Okano and Mikayla Morgan (6-0). Tomey paired with Marquette's Isabella Franks and the duo defeated Arizona's Cohen/Schneider, 6-4, before falling to New Mexico's Murgett and Lauren Rich, 6-4.
