PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University Head Coach Lisa Hart has signed Michaela Bayerlova to a National Letter of Intent, it was announced Wednesday.
Â
Bayerlova hails from the Czech Republic and plans to enroll at WSU in the fall of 2017.
Â
"We are thrilled to have Michaela join our Cougar family," said Hart. "She brings a great deal of international experience to our program and our expectation is for her to make an immediate contribution in singles and doubles. She is a tremendously hard worker, competitive and has a strong all-court game.
Â
"Both myself and (assistant coach) Robin (Cambier) feel she has tremendous talent and will reach her potential on the court, in the classroom and within the Pullman community, all characteristics of our program."
Â
Bayerlova has attained a high of 773 on the Women's Tennis Association world rankings. She has reached the semifinals of the $25,000 event in Plzen, Czech Republic, and twice reached the quarterfinals in $10,000 events. As a junior she rose to a high of No. 129 in the International Tennis Federation rankings, capturing three Grade 4 doubles titles, one Grade 2 and one Grade 3 doubles event. Bayerlova also reached the final of a Grade 4 singles tournament in 2015 and Grade 3 event earlier this year in Lion Cup, Ukraine.
Â
This past September she participated in the U.S. Open Junior Tennis Championships in New York, has played in the European Summer Cup for the Czech Republic, where she earned a European Bronze Medal, and has wins over top-20 ITF junior players.
Â
Bayerlova plans to major in engineering when she arrives at Washington State.
