Cougars Conclude Play at ITA Northwest Regional Championships

STANFORD, Calif. – Washington State's remaining doubles teams fell in the third round of play at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships Sunday at the Taube Family Tennis Center, ending the Cougars' stay at the event.

In the third round of doubles play, WSU's duo of Barbora Michalkova and Guzal Yusupova came up short to Caroline Lampl and Kimberly Yee of No.1-ranked Stanford, 8-6. The Cougar pair of Melisa Ates and Victoria Matejevic fell to St. Mary's Manji and McIntyre, 8-0.

In Sunday consolation doubles play, the freshman pair of Lejla Colic and Ege Tomey posted an 8-4 victory over Pacific's Anneroos Nederstigt and Sabrina Rodriguez.

Sophomore Aneta Miksovska opened singles consolation play, posting a hard fought 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Emma Wilson of 43rd-ranked Fresno State. Freshman Yusupova rallied in a back and forth match against Maya Jansen of UC Berkeley en route to 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) win.

Matejevic fell in a close match to Cal Poly's Seriana Saltzen, 6-0, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (10), while teammate Tomey dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Washington's Katarina Kopcalic. UC Berkeley's Alexis Nelson defeated WSU's Colic 6-2, 6-0, while Maayan Sela of Pacific escaped with a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 1-0 (8) victory over Michalkova. Ates fell to San Francisco's Hanna Borieson in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) in a third-set tiebreaker.

The Cougars concluded their fall season at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and will now prepare for the 2017 spring season, which begins with a home match against Seattle on Jan. 14
