WSU CAREER

Prior to senior season Arias competed at World University Games in Daegu, South Korea…earned a bronze medal in women's doubles with Erika Valdes…medal is first for Mexico in women's tennis history at World University Games… lost in the quarterfinals round of mixed doubles competition.

JUNIOR (2002-03): Played No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Cougars...captured wins in 16 singles matches, including a win against Oregon's No. 40 Courtney Nagle, March 16…paired with Chris Martinez to win 18 matches placing the duo in second place on the WSU career list with 37 wins…most prevalent victory of the season was an 8-5 win against No. 29 Colalillo/Engel of Arizona State…named Pac-10 First Team All-Academic with a 3.56 GPA.

SOPHOMORE (2001-02): Played No. 3 and No. 4 singles for the Cougars…. won 20 singles matches, including a victory against Arizona's No. 18 Maja Mlakar April 25…teamed with freshman Chris Martinez to win 19 doubles matches, good for third on the WSU single season list and tied for eighth on the career list…their doubles winning percentage of 67.9 percent ranks 10th on the Cougar career doubles winning percentage list…biggest doubles victory of the season was 8-4 against USC's No. 19 Loyola/Magnai duo April 13…named Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention with a 3.51 GPA.

FRESHMAN (2000-01): Made an immediate impact playing at the No. 3 doubles spot with senior Moniek van de Ven…finished with the best doubles record on the team at 15-8…doubles victory total ties for eighth on WSU's career top 10 list…doubles winning percentage of 65.2 ranks ninth on WSU career list…finished 14-10 playing mostly at the No. 5 and 6 singles position…had third best singles record among the freshman class.

CLUB CAREER

FRESHMAN year had second place finishes in both the State and Regional Cups…crowned champion of the Morelia Tournament…as a SOPHOMORE advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mexican national tournament… JUNIOR year captured first place in the Mexican national tournament, and was ranked No. 1 in the nation.

PERSONAL: Born Jan. 23, 1983 in Mexico…parents Vicente Arias and Carmen Rodriguez…Carmen also a physical education teacher and was a member of the 1968 Mexican Olympic volleyball team…two brothers Juan and Vicente …Juan played soccer for Sonoma State and Vicente currently plays tennis for Duquesne…two sisters Marita and Elis Aries…Marita is a successful lawyer in Mexico…Elis played volleyball for WSU…a communications major.
