The teams traded runs in the third. After Seattle tied the game, Collin Slaybaugh led off the Washington State half of the frame with a double. Slaybaugh took third on a balk and scored on a sacrifice fly by Richards.

Seattle tied the game with a run in the fifth, Chleborad's last inning of work. Washington State regained the lead at 4-3 in the seventh on Taylor Ard's fifth home run of the season.

In the eighth, Scott Simon (2-1) retired the first-two men he faced in his second inning of work. Simon then yielded a double and a walk before Riley Tompkins doubled to drive in two runs for a 5-4 Seattle lead.
