PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Washington State University junior
Ekaterina Burduli dropped her first round Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championship match as she fell to Wisconsin's Caitlin Burke, 6-4, 6-4.
Burduli earned a spot on the qualifying draw, but could not escape the first round to enter the main draw. The top eight finishers in the qualifying draw are then placed into the main draw of 32. Burduli, ranked 47th nationally, fell in straight sets to No. 31 Burk, the tournament's fourth-seed.
Burduli played her next match in the consolation round and defeated Petra Dizdar of Texas, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Dizdar, ranked 77th nationally, is the ninth ranked opponent Burduli has downed during her collegiate career.
Up next for Burduli is Georgia Tech's Taryn Rudman, ranked No. 74. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 1:30 p.m.
