Cougars Tied for Sixth After First Round at El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. (April 10, 2026) – Freshman Dylan Boenning shot an even-par, 72, to lead Washington State during the first round at the 2026 El Macero Classic, played Friday at the 7,138-yard, par 72, El Macero Country Club.
As a team, the Cougars finished the first 18 holes at 5-over, 293, tied with two other teams for sixth overall. Pacific leads the way after one round, finishing a 4-over, 284, followed by host UC Davis (+1, 289) and Cal Baptist (+3, 291).
Boenning completed his first round with five birdies, five bogies and eight pars as his even-par score placed him tied for 11th overall. Redshirt-junior Ben Borgida was solid throughout his round, making the turn at 1-over after a bogey on No. 2 and eight pars. On the back side, Borgida bogeyed 11 and 12 before finishing strong with a pair of birdies and four pars to finish at 1-over, 73, tied for 25th overall.
Sophomore Garrett Harrison and senior Sam Renner each finished their first rounds at 2-over, 74. Harrison made the turn at 2-over, then after a bogey on No. 10, recorded seven pars and a birdie to complete his round a 2-over, tied for 37th. Renner posted a birdie and bogey on the front side before adding three bogeys and a birdie on the back, ending a 2-over and tied with Harrison for 37th.
Sophomore Dylan Burcham never got it going on his round, managing just one birdie on No. 18 as he finished his first 18 holes at 6-over, 78, tied for 80th overall.
The second round at the El Macero Classic is set for Saturday morning. WSU is scheduled for an 8 a.m. tee time.
