MARICOPA, Ariz. (May 19, 2024) – Washington State men's golf went a program-best 22-under on Sunday to win the 2024 National Golf Invitational at 41-under, 823 at the par 72, 7,323-yard Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club for the program's first postseason tournament win.

The Cougs finished 19 strokes ahead of second-place TCU, while sophomore Sam Renner finished second among the individual field, just one stroke off the individual winner, Anthony Delisanti of Valparaiso, who went 15-under, 201.

"This was a total team effort," said Head Coach Dustin White. "The guys played awesome and it was fun to watch. I'm proud of how hard they played until there was no more golf to play. I can't say enough about this group and how hard they've worked. We saved the best for last and I'm so happy for the guys. A phenomenal way to end the season."

The team's round three score of 266 tied for the best single round score in program history, while the 41-under mark over three rounds ranks second all-time at WSU. Their 3-round score of 823 ranks fifth in program history.

Individually, Renner's second-place finish is the highest individual place in a postseason tournament in program history. His 14-under mark over three rounds ranks second in program history, and his final three-round score of 202 ties for fourth all-time.

Renner had a near perfect day on the course, scattering six birdies and an eagle to go along with 11 pars to wrap up round three at 8-under, 64. The 8-under mark in a single round ties for third-best in program history, and his score of 64 ranks fifth. He opened the day with birdies on three of his first four holes before adding two more on holes seven and eight to sit 5-under at the turn. Renner carded a birdie on 13 and then added his final birdie of the day two holes later on 15.

Fifth year Pono Yanagi shot a 7-under 65 for the second day in a row to finish the tournament in fifth place at 9-under, 207. He was rolling out of the gate as he rattled off four straight birdies to start his day, and then birdied hole nine to finish the front nine at 5-under. After another birdie on 11 and a bogey on 14, back-to-back birdies on holes 16 and 17 to end his day at 7-under.

Senior Drayton Joseph shot a career-best 67 in round three on Sunday, going 5-under to finish the tournament tied for 21st at 1-under, 215. In the event's final round, he shot an eagle on hole seven between birdies on four and eight to head into the back nine at 4-under. He bogeyed hole 10 right out of the turn, but finished his 5-under round strong with two more birdies on holes 13 and 15.

Senior Nate Plaster finished the tournament tied for 23rd with an even score of 216. He was a little up and down in his final round, shooting a birdie on hole three before a double-bogey on four, and then added one more birdie and a bogey to round out the front nine at 1-over. He carded one more bogey after making the turn, but had a clean round after that with birdies on 14 and 16 to finish the round with an even 72.

Redshirt freshman Ben Borgida subbed in for the final round in place of senior Preston Bebich, and made an impact with a counting score of 2-under, 70. He quickly went 2-under with birdies on three and four before a bogey on six put him at 1-under heading to the back nine. Another bogey on 11 put him even, but two more birdies on 14 and 16 led him to his 2-under finish.

• The Cougs earned their first tournament win since the 2022 Husky Invitational on September 20, 2022.
• This was the fifth tournament win for Head Coach Dustin White, third-most by a head coach in program history.
