Cougs move up five spots on day two at The Goodwin

SAN FRANCISCO – The Washington State men's golf team moved five spots up the team leaderboard during the second round at The Goodwin, Friday, March 31, as the Cougars ended their second day of play at TPC Harding Park in 12th place after shooting 1-over 281.

Junior Nate Plaster had his best round as a Coug, as the Spokane native carded a career-best 2-under 68 during Friday's second round. Plaster caught fire over his final nine holes of play, as the junior shot 4-under on holes 1-9 after starting his day on the 10th hole. Plaster also collected four birdies over his final nine holes. Plaster moved up a remarkable 60 spots on the player leaderboard in the round, ending his day in a tie for 78th with a two-round score of 5-over 145.

Plaster's performance helped Washington State card 1-over 281 in the second round of The Goodwin. The Cougars moved up five spots on the team leaderboard during Friday's second round, as WSU heads into Saturday's third round in 12th place in the 28-team tournament. Washington State holds a team score of 9-over 569 going into the third round of The Goodwin.

Junior Preston Bebich shot even par 70 during Friday's second round. Like Plaster, Bebich shot 1-under over his final nine holes of play at TPC Harding Park. The Gig Harbor, Washington native also had four birdies during the second round, as he heads into the tournament's third round in a tie for 47th with a two-day score of 1-over 142.

Freshman Sam Renner also had a strong performance in the second round of The Goodwin, as the Bend, Oregon native carded 1-over 71. Senior Pono Yanagi carded 2-over 72 for the second-straight day at TPC Harding Park. Both Renner and Yanagi head into the tournament's final round tied for 65th on the player leaderboard, as each golfer has shot 4-over 144 through 36 holes of play.

No. 11-ranked Georgia Tech holds a one-stroke lead over No. 13-ranked Oklahoma heading into the final round of play at The Goodwin. The Yellow Jackets moved up two spots on the team leaderboard during Friday's second round, as Georgia Tech shot 10-under 270 in the round hold a two-day score of 13-under 547. Oklahoma's Ben Lorenz and Washington's Bo Peng each sit in the pole position on the player leaderboard, as each golfer has shot 6-under 134 through two days of play at TPC Harding Park.

The third and final round of The Goodwin takes place this Saturday, April 1, with Washington State teeing off at 1:05 p.m. PT. Fans can follow all the action at GolfStat.com.
