FINAL RESULTS
LIHUE, Hawai'i – The Washington State University men's golf team posted its lowest round of the season to close out the 44th John Burns Intercollegiate, as the Cougars shot 1-under 287 to finish their second tournament of the spring in 19th place.
Senior
Daniel Kolar and freshman
Christian Yanagi led the charge for WSU, as each player shot under par in the third round on Saturday. Kolar ended his tournament at the at Wailua Golf Course by going 4-under 68, while Yanagi posted a 1-under 71.
The duos performance helped the Cougars jump past two squads on the team leaderboard on Saturday, as WSU finished 19th in the 21-field tournament with a score of 29-over 893.
"The guys showed a lot of grit today" said head coach
Dustin White. "They could have easily let circumstances dictate how they played, but they showed up with a good attitude and played hard. I'm proud of the way they carried themselves and it was great to see them play together. I think we learned a lot and can carry it forward the rest of the spring season."
Kolar lit up the Wailua Golf Course over his final 18 holes, firing in a season best 4-under 68 in the final round. The senior made five birdies on the day, as Kolar finished up his tournament making an even-par 144 to place 122 on the player leaderboard.
Yanagi's 1-under 71 on Saturday helped him place inside the top 50 on the player leaderboard, as he finished the John Burns Intercollegiate at 4-over 220 to end his tournament in a tie for 47th.
Freshman
Yuya Eguchi kept the same rhythm he found in the second round in Saturday's third round. After making an 8-over 152 in his first two rounds, Eguchi fired in four birdies to give him a third-round score of 73 (+1). Eguchi finished in a tie for 83rd going 9-over 225 for the tournament.
Two strokes behind was teammate
Tianyu Wu. In his final 18 holes of play, Wu made a three-over 75. Wu finished in a tie for 93rd with a score of 227 (+11). Freshman
Clayton Thatcher finished in a tie for 113th after finishing the tournament 232 (+16).
Texas A&M took home first place, winning by five strokes. Individually, Sam Choi from New Mexico sits alone at first winning by four strokes.
