Cougars Fall To No. 2 Oregon State in Series-Opener

CORVALLIS, Ore. (April 26, 2019) – Washington State dropped its series-opener at No. 2 Oregon State 18-4 at Goss Stadium Friday evening.
 
Every Cougar starter recorded a hit led by Jack Smith and Danny Sinatro who each had two hits but WSU combined to leave 11 runners on base. Oregon State scored in each of the first five innings and tallied 17 hits to take the opener.
 
In the first, Oregon State pushed a pair of runs across in the opening frame on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage. The Beavers used a line drive solo homer to left-centerfield in the second to push their led to 3-0.
 
In the second, Danny Sinatro led off the inning with a singled back up the middle and Andres Alvarez reached after the OSU pitcher fumbled the ball while fielding a bunt. Following a Dillon Plew sacrifice bunt, Jack Smith brought Sinatro home with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, cutting the OSU lead to 3-1.
 
In the third, OSU used six hits and a Cougar error to push four runs across and open up a 7-1 advantage.
 
In the fourth, WSU recorded four singles including RBI-hits from Koby blunt and Andres Alvarez cut the Beaver lead to 7-3. In the bottom of the inning, OSU added a run without recording a hit after WSU walked the bases loaded and a run came across on a sac fly for an 8-3 advantage.
 
In the fifth, Jack Smith led off the inning with a double off the centerfield wall and later came home on a Brody Barnum sacrifice fly, cutting the OSU lead to 8-4. The Beavers got a run back with a sacrifice fly in the fifth for a 9-4 lead.
 
In the seventh, the Beavers pulled away with six runs including a grand slam in the seventh.
